Nob Hill Real Estate
Nob Hill is one of San Francisco’s oldest, most historic neighborhoods and has long been closely associated with the city’s most affluent and prominent citizens from the 19th century onwards. While the palatial mansions of tycoons and railroad magnates such as Leland Stanford, Mark Hopkins and Collis P. Huntington are no longer standing today – they were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake – Nob Hill has never lost its patina of wealth. The properties featured in the Nob Hill real estate market these days, however, are certainly more affordable than these Victorian mansions that used to tower over the rest of the city.
Centrally located, Nob Hill real estate also enjoys a lofty perch atop a 376-foot hill (at its highest point) and overlooks the Downtown area as well as nearby Chinatown and the Financial District. While it has remained a primarily residential neighborhood, Nob Hill is also known for being home to many of San Francisco’s landmarks. The most notable among these are its collection of luxury hotels – the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel, the Huntington Hotel, the Stanford Court, and the Fairmont San Francisco. The first three were named after and constructed on the former sites of the magnates’ mansions that once stood here. As for the Fairmont, it is one of only two structures on Nob Hill to have survived the 1906 quake and fire, the other being the iconic Flood Mansion, now the Pacific-Union Club. Nob Hill is also where you’ll find Grace Cathedral and Huntington Park.
